Tests and Treatment
- Uroflow: A funnel-shaped collection device is used to measure the force of your urinary stream during the uroflow screening test. The flow rate assists doctors in determining whether a stricture is causing a blockage.
- Postvoid Residual Testing: In a postvoid residual test, the bladder is imaged with ultrasound immediately following a urination. An ultrasound scan uses sound waves to create an image that lets your doctors measure any urine that is still present.
- Cystoscopy: A doctor uses ultrasound to locate and measure the length of the strictures by inserting a narrow, flexible scope into the urethra.
- Retrograde Urethrogram: A retrograde urethrogram can be used to determine the length and degree of narrowing after a stricture has been diagnosed. This is an important step in treatment planning because the length of the stricture influences the type and success of treatment. Iodine contrast is injected into the urethra during this diagnostic test, and images are created using X-ray or ultrasound.
