Incontinence

Female incontinence is the loss of bladder control in women. Urine loss is common during pregnancy and when suffering from urinary tract infections.

Female incontinence is classified into three types:

  • Urge incontinence: Urge incontinence occurs when a woman feels the need to urinate frequently. They have urine leakage when they are experiencing this urge.
  • Stress incontinence: Women who suffer from stress incontinence, also known as physical or exertion incontinence, may experience urine leakage when coughing, laughing, exercising, or sneezing.
  • Mixed incontinence: Many women suffer from a combination of stress and urge incontinence.

Symptoms

An overactive urge to urinate or an inability to control urination while laughing, sneezing, or coughing can be symptoms of incontinence.

Tests and Treatment

Tests and procedures used to diagnose female incontinence include:

  • Bladder Stress Test
  • Ultrasound
  • Urinalysis Surgical Procedures

If Behavioral techniques, Pelvic floor muscle exercises, Medications, and interventional therapies aren't working, several surgical procedures can treat the problems that cause urinary incontinence:

  • Sling procedures
  • Bladder neck suspension.
  • Prolapse surgery.
  • Artificial urinary sphincter.
