Overactive bladder, also known as OAB, is characterized by a frequent and unexpected urge to urinate that can be difficult to control. You may feel the need to pass urine frequently throughout the day and night, and you may also experience unintentional urine loss (urgency incontinence). Overactive bladder (OAB) is a set of symptoms that cause a person to feel the need to urinate frequently and urgently. It is not a medical condition.

Symptoms of OAB can include:

• Feeling a sudden, intense urge to urinate
• Passing urine frequently throughout the day and night
• Experience unintentional loss of urine immediately after an urgent need to urinate Diagnosis

To identify and learn more about OAB, the following tests may be done

• Ultrasound.
• Computed tomography (CT) scan.
• Cystoscopy.

Treatment

Before opting for surgery there are temporary options and medications that include:

• Prescription Drugs
• Bladder injections - OnabotulinumtoxinA also called Botox
• Nerve stimulation- Percutaneous tibial nerve stimulation (PTNS) Surgical options

Surgery to treat overactive bladder is reserved for people with severe symptoms who don't respond to other treatments. The goal is to improve the bladder's ability to store urine while also lowering bladder pressure. These procedures include:

• Surgery to increase bladder capacity.
• Bladder removal.
