Urology Surgery

LASER TURBT

TURBT is the procedure done to diagnose and to treat early-stage bladder cancer at the same time. The acronym stands for transurethral resection of a bladder tumor. This procedure is the first-line diagnostic test and treatment for bladder cancer. Men are almost four times more likely than women to be diagnosed with this type of cancer.

Lasers are increasingly being used in urologic surgery. Transurethral laser resection of bladder tumor, using holmium (Ho:YAG) or thulium (Tm:YAG), has been proved to be safe, effective, and minimally invasive for NMIBC . Laser techniques without deep penetration cause less pain and bleeding. Furthermore, the laser's power can be adjusted based on the size of the tumor. The use of lasers to treat bladder cancer has been shown to be safe and minimally invasive. Noninvasive, small lesions are especially amenable to laser treatment, with clearance rates comparable to standard electrocautery resection. In addition to providing high-quality pathological specimens for further pathological diagnosis and staging, complete resection of the tumor, lamina propria, and detrusor can reduce residual tumor and cell dissemination.

Symptoms of Bladder Cancer may include

  • Blood in urine
  • A burning up or painful sensation while urinating
  • Lower back pain on one side of the body
  •  Frequent urination
  •  Feeling the need to urinate frequently during the night
  •  Feeling the need to urinate but not being able to pass urine

Tests and Treatment

This procedure is the first-line diagnostic test and treatment for bladder cancer. This type of cancer is almost four times more common in men than in women.

When first diagnosed, the majority of people have bladder cancer that has not invaded the muscle wall. Nearly all people who are diagnosed with bladder cancer will have their bladder tumors resection and biopsy.

A biopsy is a procedure in which a doctor takes a sample of the tissue in the area where there might be cancer. The doctor will try to get rid of the cancerous growth as well during the biopsy procedure. Transurethral resection of bladder tumor (TURBT) encompasses the entire biopsy and resection of a bladder tumor
