Hydrocele
Hydrocele surgery, also known as hydrocelectomy, is the procedure for repairing a hydrocele by draining the fluid that has accumulated in the scrotum. A hydrocele usually resolves on its own; however, when the condition persists for an extended period of time, surgical treatment is advised.
A surgeon makes a cut in the scrotum or lower stomach area to remove the hydrocele. Occasionally, a hydrocele is discovered after surgery to treat an inguinal hernia. In this scenario, even if the hydrocele is not causing any discomfort, the surgeon may remove it.
Symptoms
Often the only sign of a hydrocele is a painless swelling of one or both testicles. An adult's scrotum may feel weighty due to swelling. In general, discomfort worsens as swelling worsens. Sometimes, the swelling may be smaller in the morning and bigger later in the day.
