TURP

Transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP) is a surgical procedure used to treat urinary issues caused by an enlarged prostate (referred to as BPH). TURP is a surgical procedure in which a section of the prostate is removed.

Symptoms of BPH include:

  • Having a frequent or urgent need to urinate
  • Waking up many times to urinate
  • Trouble starting to urinate
  • A stream that's weak, slow, or stops and starts
  • Dribbling after urination
  • Urinary incontinence
  • Feeling that you can't completely empty your bladder
  • Pain after ejaculation or during urination
  • Urine with an unusual color or smell Diagnosis

To identify and learn more about it, the following tests may be done:

  • Urine tests.
  • A blood test for PSA (prostate-specific antigen test).
  • Urodynamic tests to examine your capacity to store and excrete pee.
  • A cystoscopy to examine your bladder and urethra.
  • Urinary tract and prostate ultrasound images.
